The world’s only dedicated flour-transport vessel, the Mercurial Latistar is used only
to transport wheat flour.
The Mercurial Latistar can hold about 1,400 metric tons of flour,
moving some 150,000 metric tons of flour a year. Transport by this vessel saves tens of
thousands of lorry trips, yielding enormous cost and time savings.
Unique Loading and Unloading System
The Mercurial Latistar loading and unloading system is unique. One of flour’s properties
is that it is greasy, and hence sticky and difficult to transport. Smits developed a completely
closed system that is highly environmentally friendly and practically soundless.
